About Us
| The Kanga Project supports the work of the Rural Women Development Association (RWDA), a Tanzanian grassroots organisation that strives to overcome the cultural and economic marginalisation of rural women and girls. Although Tanzania is slowly changing, culturally, economically and politically, for the majority of rural women, the vicious circle of poverty is denying them the smallest of these new opportunities.
The RWDA is an innovative organisation that helps women develop new opportunities through education, training and small loans. Women are shown how to become assertive and develop an entrepreneurial attitude that helps them break from their traditional subsistence way of living to becoming full participants in the cash economy. |
| And to make sure that the next generations of women hit the floor running, we encourage girls to gain a secondary education by building hostels in the ground of secondary schools. The majority of girls in rural areas live too far away from the few secondary schools and as a result less than half (of the 5% who attempt a secondary education) actually complete their studies. |
| Since our inception as a Charity (reg. 1119375) in May 2007, we have been able to finance and support:
. The construction of a 60 bed hostel for girls in the grounds of Ilongero Secondary School near Singida in Central Tanzania, so that the girls who live too far away from the school can also get the chance of a secondary education. · The setting up of a chicken rearing business for a group of 15 women. · The training of over 600 women in skills ranging from budgeting, leadership, family planning, hygiene to awareness and business set ups. Please donate now to The Kanga Project and we will be able to replicate these life changing projects over and over. It costs less than £30,000 to build a 60 bed hostel. It costs only £2.50 to provide a woman with a two day training seminar. It costs just £2,500 to set up a commercial chicken breeding business.
